Hey everyone.  I'm new to this board but have been lurking on this subject for a few days and wanted to post.

This is how I feel today:

Grey Street by Dave Matthews Band

Oh look at how she listens
She says nothing of what she thinks
She just goes stumbling through her memories
Staring out on Grey Street

She thinks, "Hey,
How did I come to this?
I dream myself a thousand times around the world.
But I can't get out of this place."

There's an emptiness inside her
And she'd do anything to fill it in
But all the colors mix together - to grey
And it breaks her heart

How she wishes it was different
She prays to God most every night
And though she swears it doesn't listen
There's still a hope in her it might

She says, "I pray
But they fall on deaf ears.
Am I supposed to take it on myself?
To get out of this place."

There's loneliness inside her
And she'd do anything to fill it in
And though it's red blood bleeding from her now
It feels like cold blue ice in her heart
When all the colors mix together - to grey
And it breaks her heart

There's a stranger speaks outside her door
Says take what you can from your dreams
Make them as real as anything
It'd take the work out of the courage

But she says, "Please,
There's a crazy man that's creeping outside my door,
I live on the corner of Grey Street
And the end of the world."

There's an emptiness inside her
And she'd do anything to fill it in
And though it's red blood bleeding from her now
It's more like cold blue ice in her heart
She feels like kicking out all the windows
And setting fire to this life
She could change everything about her
Using colors bold and bright
But all the colors mix together - to grety
And it breaks her heart
It breaks her heart
To grey

And this is my favorite Poe song and it means so much more to me now.

Fly Away by Poe

It makes sense that it should happen this way
That the sky should break
And the Earth should shake
As if to say
"Sure it all matters, but in such an unimportant way"
As if to say

Fly away
Sweet bird of prey
Fly, fly away
Nothing can stand in your way
Sweet bird
If you knew the words
I know that you'd say
Fly, fly away

It makes sense that it should hurt in this way
That my heart should break
And my hands should shake
As if to say
"Sure it don't matter except in a most important way"
As if to say

Fly away
Sweet bird of prey
Fly, fly away
I won't stand in your way
Sweet bird
If you knew the words
I know that you'd say
Fly, fly away

It makes sense that it should feel this way
That you slowly fade
And yet still remain
As if to say
"Everything matters in such an invisible way"
As if to say
"It's okay"

Fly away

I am not a religious person but I am moved by this song every time I hear it, usually to the point of tears. It reminds me of what I have lost, and all that I can gain by asking others for help.

Holy Water by Big and Rich (yes its a country song and I present it to you without predjudice)

Somewhere there's a stolen halo
I used to watch her wear it well
Everything would shine
Wherever she would go
But looking at her now you's never tell

Someone ran away with her innocence
A memory she can't get out of her head
I can only imagine
What she's feeling when she's praying
Kneeling at the edge of her bed

And she says

Take me away
And take me farther
Surround me now
And hold, hold, hold me
Like holy water

She wants someone to call her angel
Someone to put the light back in her eyes
She looking through the faces
And unfamiliar places
She needs someone to hear her when she cries

And she says

Take me away
And take me farther
Surround me now
And hold, hold, hold me
Like holy water

She just needs a little help
To wash away the pain she's felt
She wants to feel the healing hands
Of someone who understands

And she says

Take me away
And take me farther
Surround me now
And hold, hold, hold

She says
Take me away
And take me farther
Surround me now
And hold, hold, hold me
like holy water

Calling All Angels by Jane Siberry & k.d. Lang

Santa Maria, Santa Teresa, Santa Anna, Santa Susannah
Santa Cecilia, Santa Copelia, Santa Domenica, Mary Angelica
Frater Achad, Frater Pietro, Julianus, Petronilla
Santa, Santos, Miroslaw, Vladimir
and all the rest

a man is placed upon the steps, a baby cries
and high above the church bells start to ring
and as the heaviness the body oh the heaviness settles in
somewhere you can hear a mother sing

then it's one foot then the other as you step out onto the road
how much weight? how much weight?
then it's how long? and how far?
and how many times before it's too late?

calling all angels
calling all angels
walk me through this one
don't leave me alone
calling all angels
calling all angels
we're cryin' and we're hurtin'
and we're not sure why...

and every day you gaze upon the sunset
with such love and intensity
it's almost...it's almost as if
if you could only crack the code
then you'd finally understand what this all means

but if you could...do you think you would
trade in all the pain and suffering?
ah, but then you'd miss
the beauty of the light upon this earth
and the sweetness of the leaving

calling all angels
calling all angels
walk me through this one
don't leave me alone
callin' all angels
callin' all angels
we're tryin'
we're hopin'
we're hurtin'
we're lovin'
we're cryin'
we're callin'
'cause we're not sure how this goes

Heres a link so you can hear it: (Im not sure if its just a sample or
the full song)

Mistakes I Made by Fran Lucci

It really is a miracle that I have come this far.
Without a hope without a prayer without a guiding star.
In spite of my nativity and many dreams betrayed,
I know I would not be here now but for mistakes I made

But for mistakes I made
Who knows who I would be
Some other heart some other soul
Some other destiny
But for the times I took a wrong turn unafraid
I might have missed it all
But for mistakes I made

So many times I've tried to change things out of my control.
The jealousy and all the rage that swallowed me up whole.
The years that I spent loving those who did not feel the same.
The times I didn't trust myself with only me to blame.

But for mistakes I made
Who knows where I would be
Some other place some other time
Some other destiny
But for the times I took a wrong turn unafraid
I might have missed it all
But for mistakes I made

These things have taught me what is real
How to laugh how to cry how to love without regret and when to say hello..or goodbye
I know whatever comes my way my dues have all been paid.
For you would not be in my life, but for mistakes I made

But for mistakes I made
Who knows who I would be
Some other heart some other soul
Some other destiny
But for the times I took a wrong turn unafraid
I might have missed it all
But for mistakes I made

I might have missed it all
But for mistakes I made.

Mrs. Potter's Lullaby by The Counting Crows

Well I woke up in mid-afternoon cause that's when it all hurts the most
I dream I never know anyone at the party and I'm always the host
If dreams are like movies, then memories are films about ghosts
You can never escape, you can only move south down the coast

Well, I am an idiot walking a tightrope of fortune and fame
I am an acrobat swinging trapezes through circles of flame
If you've never stared off in the distance, then your life is a shame
And though I'll never forget your face,
sometimes I can't remember my name

Hey Mrs. Potter don't cry
Hey Mrs. Potter I know why but
Hey Mrs. Potter won't you talk to me

Well, there's a piece of Maria in every song that I sing
And the price of a memory is the memory of the sorrow it brings
And there is always one last light to turn out and one last bell to ring
And the last one out of the circus has to lock up everything

Or the elephants will get out and forget to remember what you said
And the ghosts of the tilt-a-whirl will linger inside of your head
And the ferris wheel junkies will spin them forever instead
When I see you a blanket of stars covers me in bed

Hey Mrs. Potter don't go
Hey Mrs. Potter I don't know but
Hey Mrs. Potter won't you talk to me

All the blue light reflections that color my mind when I sleep
And the lovesick rejections that accompany the company I keep
All the razor perceptions that cut just a little too deep
Hey I can bleed as well as anyone, but I need someone to help me sleep

So I throw my hand into the air and it swims in the beams
It's just a brief interruption of the swirling dust sparkle jet stream
Well, I know I don't know you and you're probably not what you seem
But I'd sure like to find out
So why don't you climb down off that movie screen

Hey Mrs. Potter don't turn
Hey Mrs. Potter I burn for you
Hey Mrs. Potter won't you talk to me

When the last king of Hollywood shatters his glass on the floor
and orders another
Well, I wonder what he did that for That's when I know that I have to get out cause I have been there before
So I gave up my seat at the bar and I head for the door

We drove out to the desert just to lie down beneath this bowl of stars
We stand up at the Palace like it's the last of the great Pioneertown bars
We shout out these songs against the clang of electric guitars
You can see a million miles tonight
But you can't get very far
Hey Mrs. Potter I won't touch and
Hey Mrs. Potter it's not much but
Hey Mrs. Potter won't you talk to me

I Will Remember You by Sarah Mclachlan

I will remember you
Will you remember me?
Don't let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories
Remember the good times that we had?
I let them slip away from us when things got bad
How clearly I first saw you smilin' in the sun
Wanna feel your warmth upon me, I wanna be the one
I will remember you
Will you remember me?
Don't let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories
I'm so tired but I can't sleep
Standin' on the edge of something much too deep
It's funny how we feel so much but we cannot say a word
We are screaming inside, but we can't be heard
But I will remember you
Will you remember me?
Don't let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories
I'm so afraid to love you, but more afraid to loose
Clinging to a past that doesn't let me choose
Once there was a darkness, deep and endless night
You gave me everything you had, oh you gave me light
And I will remember you
Will you remember me?
Don't let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories
And I will remember you
Will you remember me?
Don't let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories
Weep not for the memories

Ghost by The Indigo Girls

There's a letter on the desktop that I dug out of a drawer
the last truce we ever came to from our adolescent war
and I start to feel a fever from the warm air through the screen
you come regular like seasons shadowing my dreams

and the mississippi's mighty but it starts in Minnesota
at a place where you could walk across with five steps down
and I guess that's how you started like a pinprick to my heart
but at this point you rush right through me and I start to drown

and there's not enough room in this world for my pain
signals cross and love gets lost and time passed makes it plain
of all my demon spirits I need you the most
I'm in love with your ghost
I'm in love with your ghost

dark and dangerous like a secret that gets whispered in a hush
when i wake the things I dreamt about you last night make me blush
when you kiss me like a lover
then you sting me like a viper
i go follow to the river
play your memory like the piper

and i feel it like a sickness how this love is killing me
but i'd walk into the fingers of your fire willingly
and dance the edge of sanity i've never been this close
in love with your ghost

unknowing captor you'll never know how much you
pierce my spirit
but i can't touch you

can you hear it a cry to be free
or i'm forever under lock and key
as you pass through me

now i see your face before me
i would launch a thousand ships
to bring your heart back to my island
as the sand beneath me slips

as i burn up in your presence and i know now how it feels
to be weakened like Achilles with you always at my heels
and my bitter pill to swallow is the silence that i keep
that poisons me i can't swim free the river is too deep

though i'm baptized by your touch i am no worse at most
in love with your ghost

Balayés mes amours ((i dunno) the lovers)
Avec leurs trémolos (with their (i dunno))
Balayés pour toujours ((i dunno) for always)
Je repars à zéro (i repair at zero)

Non, rien de rien (no nothing of nothing)

Non, je ne regrette rien (no i regret nothing)
Car ma vie (except my life)
Car mes joies (except my joys)
Aujourd'hui (today)
Ça commence avec toi... (it starts with you...)

~~I haven't heard this song in aaaaages. so if its wrong, i'm sorry Lou!!~

Now, here's mine:

Title: Woman
Musician: Maroon 5

Lyrics:(i think they're wrong but here they are anyways)

If I be so inclinded to climb up inside you would you tell me that the time
just isn't right?
And if I SHOULD ever find the key you hide so well, will you tell me that I can spend
the night?

Leaving your smell on my coat
Leaving your taste on my shoulder
I still fail to understand what it is about this woman
Yeah, Oh Woh, woh woh

If I could bottle up the chills you give me, I would keep them in a jar next to
my bed.
And if I should ever draw a picture of a woman, it is you that would come
flowing from my pen, yeah

Leaving your clothes on the floor
Making me walk out the door and
I still fail to understand what it is about this woman

Oooo, oh

Helplessly melting as I stand next to the sun and as she burned me, I am
screaming out for more.
Drink every drop of liquid heat that I've become, pop me open spit me out onto
the floor.

Leaving your smell on my coat
Leaving your taste on my shoulder
I still fail to understand what it is about this woman

Leaving your smell on my coat
(Leaving your smell on my coat)
Leaving your taste on my shoulder
(Leaving your taste on my shoulder)
I still fail to understand what it is about this woman

I find this song absolutely haunting, but it is a great comfort to me.

Remember The Tinman -- Tracy Chapman

there are locks on the doors, chains stretched across
all the entries to lead inside.
there's a gate and a fence with bars to protect
from only God knows what lurks outside.
who stole your heart, left you with a space
no one or nothing can fill?
who stole your heart, who took it away,
knowing that without it you can't live?
who took away the part so essential to the whole,
left you a hollow body, skin and bone?
what robber, what thief?
who stole your heart and the key?

who stole your heart, the smile from your face,
the innocence, the light from your eyes?
who stole your heart, did you give it away?
and if so, when and why?
who took away the part so essential to the whole,
left you a hollow body, skin and bone?
what robber, what thief?
who stole your heart and the key?
now all sentiment is gone
no you have no trust in no one

who stole your heart? did you know but forget
the method and moment in time?
was it a trickster using mirror and sleight of hand,
a strong elixir or a potion that you drank?
who hurt your heart, bruised it in a place
no one or nothing can heal?
you've gone to wizards, princes and magic men
you've gone witches, the good, the bad, the indifferent
still all sentiment is gone
still you have no trust in no one

you can tear down the walls, throw your armor away
remove all blocks, barricades
you can forget there are bandits, dragons to slay
but don't forget you defend an empty space
and remember the Tinman finally found what he thought he lacked
remember the Tinman, go find your heart and take it back

who stole your heart, maybe no one can say
one day you will find it, i pray

Have I mentioned how much I LOVE Maroon 5?? Here is yet another awesome song by them.

Ragdoll - Maroon 5

How ya feelin'?
The day has had its way with both of us
And oh, I've gone out of my way
But I'm not free
From this pain I'm feeling
I was a fool to think someday
You would come around
But no, no, no
I'm not thinking that way

'Cause now i see
You are not what you seem
You are a mystery to me
Sometimes I just want to scream

I think you should just go away 'cause
There's no necessity for you to stay and
Next time you come around my way
Forget it baby
You're not comin' in

How's your day been? (yeah)
'Cause mine has taken strange and ugly turns
But no, no, no
I feel better today
Because I'm off my knees

You are not what you seem
You are a mystery to me
Sometimes I just want to scream

I think you should just go away 'cause
There's no necessity for you to stay and
Next time you come around my way
Forget it baby
You're not comin' in
A heart ready for a life of sorrow
No you can't come back tomorrow
Shut my windows
Lock my doors
'Cause my heart won't be your ragdoll anymore (yeah)

I think you should just go away 'cause
There's no necessity for you to stay and
Next time you come around my way
Forget it baby
You're not comin' in
A heart ready for a life of sorrow
No you can't come back tomorrow
Shut my windows
Lock my doors
'Cause my heart won't be your ragdoll anymore (oh oh yeah yeah)

'Cause my heart won't be your ragdoll anymore

I can't find the thread to post which song you're feeling at the moment. So I thought I'd post it here. I'll follow with my healing song of the day. I'm drinking Tori.

I feel....

"Spark"

She's addicted to nicotine patches
She's addicted to nicotine patches
She's afraid of the light in the dark
6:58 are you sure where my spark is
Here
Here
Here

She's convinced she could hold back a glacier
But she couldn't keep Baby alive
Doubting if there's a woman in there somewhere
Here

You say you don't want it again
And again but you don't really mean it
You say you don't want it
This circus we're in
But you don't you don't really mean it
You don't really mean it
If the Divine master paly is perfection
Maybe next I'll give Jday a try
Trusting my soul to the ice cream assassin
Here

You say you don't want it again
And again but you don't really mean it
You say you don't want it
This cirucs we're in
But you don't you don't really mean it
You don't really mean it
How may fates turn around in the overtime
Ballerinas that have fins that you'll never find
You thought that you were the bomb yeah
Well so did I
Say you don't want it
Say you don't want it
Say you don't want it again
And again but you don't really mean it
Say you don't want it
This circus we're in
But you don't you don't really mean it
You don't really mean it

She's addicted to nicotine patches
She's afraid of the light in the dark
6:58 are you sure where my spark is
Here

My most healing song right now is...

"Northern Lad"

Had a northern lad
Well not exactly had
He moved like the sunset
God who painted that
First he love my accent
How his knees could bend
I thought we'd be ok
Me and my molasses
But I feel someting is wrong
But I fell this cake just isn't done
Don't say that you Don't
And if you could see me now
Said if you could see me now
Girls you've got to know
When it's time to turn the page
When you're only wet
Because of the rain
He don't show much these days
It's gets so fucking cold
I loved his secret places
But I can't go anymore
"you change like sugar cane"
Says me northern lad
I guess you go too far
When pianos try to be guitars
I feel the west in you
And I feel it falling apart too
Don't say that you Don't
And if you could see me now
Said if you could see me now
Girls you've got to know
When it's time to turn the page
When you're only wet
Because of the rain
When you're only wet
Because of the rain

The Woman in Your Life is You--Words and Music by Alix Dobkin
Performed by Holly Near

Holly Near is a well known Lesbian musician. I first heard her music when she began performing what was called "women's music" in the early '70's. As a heterosexual woman, I find her music to be uplifting. This is a favorite song of mine. It reminds me to listen to myself and to be true to myself.

The woman in your life
Will do what she must do
To comfort you and calm you down
And let you rest now
The woman in your life
She can rest so easily
She knows everything you do because
The woman in your life is you

The woman in your life
Knows simply what is true
She knows a simple way to touch
To make you whole now
The woman in your life
She can touch so easily
She knows everything you do because
The woman in your life is you

And who knows more about your story
About your struggles in the world
Who cares more to bless your weary shoulders than
The woman in your life
She's tryin to come through
A woman's voice with messages of
Woman's feelings
The woman in your life
She can feel so easily
She knows everything you do because
The woman in your life is you

And who is sure to give you courage
And who will surely make you strong
Who will bear this joy that's coming to you if not

The woman in your life
She is someone to pursue
She is patience and she's waiting
And she'll take you home now
The woman in your life
She can wait so easily
She knows exactly what you do because
The woman in your life is you

hey pplz,

I was listening to the CD my T gave me and one of the songs really stuck with me

How could anyone ever tell you,
You are anything less than beautiful?
How could anyone ever tell you,
You are less than whole?
How could anyone fail to notice,
That your loving is a miracle,
How deeply you're connected to my soul

Its by Shaina Noll from the CD Songs for the inner child and the first time I heard it I was completely overwhelmed because u don't here those sorts of things and its what we as survivors need to hear to be appreciated and know that we are beautiful and unique and special

*Trigger Warning*

Here is a very sad but lovely song:

Behind the Wall --Tracy Chapman

"Last night I heard the screaming
Loud voices behind the wall
Another sleepless night for me
It won’t do no good to call
The police
Always come late
If they come at all

And when they arrive
They say they can’t interfere
With domestic affairs
Between a man and his wife
And as they walk out the door
The tears well up in her eyes

Last night I heard the screaming
Then a silence that chilled my soul
I prayed that I was dreaming
When I saw the ambulance in the road
And the policeman said
’I’m here to keep the peace
Will the crowd disperse
I think we all could use some sleep’"

And a kick-ass song:

Independence Day --Martina McBride

"Well she seemed all right by dawn's early light
Though she looked a little worried and weak
She tried to pretend he wasn't drinkin' again
But daddy left the proof on her cheek
and I was only eight years old that summer
And I always seemed to be in the way
So I took myself down to the fair in town
On Independence Day

Well word gets around in a small, small town
They said he was a dangerous man
Mama was proud and she stood her ground
she knew she was on the losin' end
Some folks whispered some folks talked
but everybody looked the other way
when time ran out there was no one about
On Independence Day

Let Freedom ring, let the white dove sing
Let the whole world know that today is a
Day of reckoning
Let the weak be strong, let the right be wrong
Roll the stone away, let the guilty pay, it's
Independence Day

Well she lit up the sky that fourth of July
By the time that the firemen come
They just put out the flames,
and took down some names
And sent me to the county home
Now I ain’t sayin' it's right or it's wrong
but maybe it's the only way
Talk about your revolution
It's Independence Day

Let Freedom ring, let the white dove sing
Let the whole world know that today is a
Day of reckoning
Let the weak be strong, let the right be wrong
Roll the stone away, let the guilty pay, it's
Independence Day
Roll the stone away
It's Independence Day"

Another very sad song:

Inconsolable --Jonatha Brooke

"I never knew what enough was, until I'd had more than my share
I let the darkness in, and it was then I lost the dare
It was then I lost the day

There will be no prayers on your return
And there will be no party thrown
And you will find your inheritance is the silence that's grown
It is the seed that you've sown

'Cause you were the one sure thing
The one sure thing
Maybe I'm not crazy, just inconsolable
Inconsolable

There is no mystery to be revealed
And so we tell the truth and then run
I love you because I love you
And I did think that you were the one
But now I see who you've become

'Cause you were the one sure thing
The one sure thing
Maybe I'm not crazy, just inconsolable
Inconsolable."

merchant of love - by joan armatrading

you're selling emotions
that i can't buy
don't want the sadness
price is far too high
and i don't want-i don't need
your package lies
i got too much in store

someone help me find the merchant of love
selling heaven here on earch
i've bought pain and measures
of pure heartache
i've had all i can take

i'm willing to wait for lasting pleasure
with promises that won't ever break
someone help me find the merchant of love
with a full garantee

i've travelled miles and miles and miles
to find the place
with treasures much more rich than gold
i just want a heart that captures my soul
and i'm willing to wait
