A friend and I were talking about the constant chit chat that is thrown at us on a regular basis. Whether it is the T.V., Radio, computer, children, grandchildren, cellphones or whatever noise comes our way it seems constant. Now I know some people who can not go without the noise. Me? I need the quiet. I need the "downtime". So, in reference to our conversation, she was telling me how overwhelmed she was with some excitement her SO was experiencing. She had to just tell him to chill for a bit so she could dial down. I told her that I tell my grand kids to go talk to a tree. They listen and don't talk back. They can take the excitement. She laughed and said that is a good idea. Now to some that sounds cruel. But really, it's not. In talking this over with my 15 year old, she said, "It always helped me, Mom. But, you have to be careful what tree you tell what to. I like to read stories to my trees. I read Shakespeare to the Oaks. But you have tell them not to cry though or they will become Weeping Willows."
My grand kids do talk to trees, flowers, plants, bushes, bugs, grass, birds you name it. Now, whether this is because I told them to so I could have downtime, I don't know. I would like to think so.
