In reading her notes online, in my chart, I have discovered that she has doubts that the lactose in a medication she prescribed me would affect my stomach in any kind of significant way.
I have refused to take this medication, and have instead found the same thing OTC, that has no lactose. I am beyond frustration right now, because I have beat the drum on my lactose allergy, which is severe, and, up until now, I believed that my doc had my back when it came to ensuring that I could avoid lactose in any medication she prescribed me.
However, her note in my chart shows her disregard for my feelings. And, her total lack of understanding of exactly how lactose affects me.
At this point, I find myself growing increasingly pissed at her, and am on the verge of finding a new doc.
That is, if I can again convince myself that I should even bother to go to the doctor again, because this isn’t the first time I have encountered crap for attitude in docs.
Here's my email to her:
Could you please put in my records that I have a severe allergy to lactose? I read your note on 11/15/13, about you having doubts that the amount of lactose in the iron pills would cause me problems. What no one seems to understand, even after I explain it, is that that small amount in each pill adds up in my body over the period of time that I am taking that medication. And contrary to what anyone seems to understand, yes, that small amount of lactose in each pill does have a very adverse affect on my stomach. It gives me pain that is indescribably, and diarrhea with throbbing pains in my anus. And those problems exacerbate my depression. That is why I take such care to avoid everything that I ingest that contains any form of lactose or dairy. I am very tired of having to try and explain this to everyone, and I would appreciate it if you would listen and try to understand, and take me and my allergy to lactose seriously.
