ICASA consists of 34 sexual assault crisis centers and 26 satellite offices. Each center and satellite responds to victims of sexual assault. Staff and volunteers provide counseling, education and advocacy for victims and their families regardless of age, race or income. The rape crisis centers conduct training and prevention programs for local schools, law enforcement, hospitals and civic groups.

To be connected with your local center please call RAINN at 1-800-656-HOPE or call your local rape crisis center. If you are a survivor living in Illinois your are entitled to free or low cost counseling, medical advocacy, and legal advocacy services. If you were recently assaulted and go to the emergency room you will be provided with care at no cost to you. You also may be entitled to assistance through the Victim's Compensation Fund to pay for related medical care, reimbursement of lost wages, tuition assistance, and treatment services related to the assault.

I just have to say, that the Women's Center is amazing. After my assault, I sought counseling there, and they were so supportive and helpful. Later, I became a volunteer, and was amazed by the activist community surrounding the center. The women (and a few men) who work/volunteer there are incredible.

Workshops for Survivors and Secondaries

I found this place in Evanston (just north of Chicago) that has fairly affordable workshops for survivors of sexual abuse and trauma. Although they are called women care counseling, they have workshops and groups for male survivors too. They provide workshops for secondaries and significant others. For anyone who lives in the area, they also have groups and counseling. Here's the link

I went there for individual counseling years ago for a brief amount of time and they seemed to be pretty decent. The counselor I had was definetly familiar with survivors responses and needs compared to general therapists I have had over the years. They offer individual and group counseling in addition to medical and legal advocacy. I never utilized the group counseling and the medical and legal advocacy so I don't know much about it but the individual seemed to be rather decent. Although they will assist you during crisis management for counseling if you do SI or have other similiar self-destructive behaviors, they are more recovery oriented so you must be somewhat stable (SI free etc..) when working on long term recovery issues. If not, they will recommend you to another facility that deals with those issues and you can augment their services with mental health treatment elsewhere. Again, this is what I gathered personally from years ago. It never hurts to check in and see what services are available and if you qualify.
