Reluctant to file report

Posted by wildnfree , 17 November 2013 · 199 views

Lately Ive been thinking of reporting what happened ro me, or at least going to the local crisis center to see what my options are. Honestly, Im reluctant to report it. What if the police dont believe me? What if theres not enough evidence to pursue X or he denies everything? . Im worried b/c X still has access to young women at church. It scares me b/c he gloated that he'd planned on hurting me years before I turned 18 and other disturbing details...

Hi wildnfree I'm currently having the same thoughts, in fact I have just posted in 'my voice' and then saw your blog title pop up.  I'm not sure how to help but maybe your local crisis centre is a good place to start? I have an appointment to go on Friday - they reassured me that its just to discuss my options, I'm in control the whole time and they wont push me in to doing anything - I was so relieved when I heard this - of course I will share anything I learn with you if that would be helpful and take care with whatever you decide to do - Jess

Hi there, thanks for your kind reply to my post.

I just wanted to let you know I went to the meeting at the crisis centre and it turned out to be a lot less daunting than I thought it would be.  It was a chance to just 'have a chat', to discuss my worries about reporting  (a lot of them are the same as yours).  She addressed each one with kindness and reassurance and I felt more positive at the end.  I still haven't made a decision but I have another appointment in a couple of weeks to talk it out some more.  I live in the UK so I'm not sure how different it is to where you are but it sounded like the officers dealing with our kinds of cases have specialist training - we wouldn't just make our reports to a random police officer, we would deal with the same person all the way through - they're role is to be a support.

I am feeling more positive about reporting after the meeting - I still get moments of doubt where I say to myself 'what are you thinking???' but I guess I am seriously thinking about it now.

Thinking of you - hope you're ok - Jess
