Description Impact Bay Area's purpose is to prevent violence, promote healing and foster safe communities by teaching women and girls the emotional and physical skills to defend themselves against verbal, physical and sexual assault.

Through our years of experience, we know every woman, regardless of her age, size or physical health can learn to effectively defend herself against verbal, physical and sexual assault. In our courses, students practice physical and verbal techniques in an adrenalized state resulting in "muscle memory" - their bodies will remember the techniques in a crisis situation.

One of my mentors who knows my history kept pushing me to take this class, and I kept refusing because the whole concept just terrified me. But, 4 years after he first mentioned it, I finally took it--and it has been the most important step in my journey back so far. I took my first class 2 years ago, and I have been involved in the IMPACT community as an assistant and volunteer since. This summer I am planning to become an instructor. Oh, and if this is something you are not considering because of cost, they are so good about giving scholarships--without one I would never have been able to take the class.
