My Existance My Existence

In the warmth
of a hot August Evening
I became aware of it
my own existence
I had not noticed it before
when Spring was young
morning dew
gently kissed
budding petals
when the songbirds
sang of love
and the sun rose
slowly and steadily
I was not there then
when Summer heat scorched
and the pavement scorched
was I there and no-one noticed
even I did not notice it then
my existence I mean
I have always been
his wife
her mother
their mom
cheer mom
dry the tears mom
was it me
hidden in the background
in the lunch pails
and backpacks
on the grocery list
and laundry list
was I there all along?
Entering now
The Autumn of life
Late Autumn perhaps
Yet more alive than ever
I noticed my existence today
and for the first time
in a long time
I felt worth noticing
