Grand Jury

Posted by sailor , 08 February 2014 · 153 views

I received the most official looking piece of mail the other day.
"You are hereby commanded to appear before the grand jury as a witness...."
Yes, those first six words are even in bold type. I may be the victim, but it sounds like they consider me an untrustworthy criminal.
In two weeks I will speak to a jury of seven people. The district attorney and possibly my detective will be there. No one from the defense.
They will decide that day if there is enough evidence to go forward with a trial.
They either decide there isn't enough evidence, and it's all over, or I will have to face a trial.
And either way, I'm scared.

(hugs if okay)

Not sure what state you are in but often it is not that the victim is untrustworthy but that things have to be done by the book so to speak. So if there is a conviction, they cannot come back later and claim error. I can imagine you are scared. At least at this step you will not have to face anyone from the defense. Take gentle care.

Thank you both.
