shame

Shame is the name of the game.
Drop your head.
No, it’s already down.
Forlorn.
Not your fault but you know.
You were there.

The memories are there to stay.
They don’t fade away.
They remind you every day.

You don’t need a scarlet letter.
It’s on your face.

Your eyes look down.
Stranger’s eyes bore holes in your soul.
Where can you go to escape their eyes?

Touch the wall as your walking by down the hall.
Wish you could melt into it.
Runaway.
But you don’t.

You go day after day to survive.
Drone.

Walking to the beat of some unknown drum.
How it hums.
Mesmerized.
Empty inside.

How do you keep going when the pain’s so deep?
Steal moments of tears for the years that are lost.
Gone.

The cost so steep for his needs.
For his needs.

Hope nobody sees.
