I have a soft spot in my heart for all animals. They have done nothing to deserve pain and/or punishment. Their only aim is to survive and no one can fault them for that.
Pepi was special to me and my family. Even though he was taken to Vet regularly, nothing was ever suspected. We could tell he had pain in his legs from time to time, but the Vets assumed it was muscle inflammation or perhaps arthritis, a normal and logical assumption. Although Pepi was a mixed breed dog, a Malt-tzu, small breed dogs are supposedly more susceptible to illness.
The specialists couldn't determine where the cancer originated, but it spread throughout his body. In the end, he was in a great deal of pain. The Vets stated it this way...
Dogs are pack animals. If they show weakness or sickness, they are run out of the pack. By the time they show you something is wrong, it's usually too late.
Pepi was no weakling. He was such a trooper. He always stood his ground, even against Rottweilers and German Shepherds. He was attacked by a Rottweiler last year, which required several stitches...and still he was fearless.
This is to all us survivors...all of us... There is something to be learned, loved and admired in animals. Take from them whatever attribute suits you best. For me, I admire my little Pepi's strength. He had so much courage and love to give. I will miss him greatly. I can't stop crying...
