getting evicted

I'm so upset and I don't know what to do. My boyfriend and I moved into our first apartment about a year and a half ago. The apartment looked dated even before I rented it but the landlord said the only problem was the deck, which he fixed before we moved in. Besides some superficial things it looked like a cute "vintage" style place. Little did I know...The AC was broken and leaked, the roof leaked, the washer/dryer both broke at least twice while we've been here, some of the windows don't open because THATS how old they are...This list can go on and on. Sometimes the landlord with fix it, but most of the time he doesn't show up when he says he's going to.

Naturally I felt sort of cheated out of the wonders of having a new apartment, but I'm young and understand I pay less and thus receive less. We've never once threatened to call the Town's Utilities place (who also handles cases of landlord negligence). Sometimes we're are late on rent but we always pay the late fee when we are. It is so shocking that we're only a week late and now they're trying to evict us. Us? We've been nothing but understanding! I've put up with so much. There's a roach problem in the building and we've been forced to deal with it ourselves, nothing seems to work, they keep coming back! The landlord said he hired a bug guy for both upstairs and downstairs but as soon as this bug guy "supposedly" came, the infestation got WORSE. I don't think he hired a bug guy at all, or he did hire one but just for downstairs so all the bugs came up to MY place. He's even trying to short sale the house and people have come into my home to photograph it.

I have 3 days to decide to pay what I owe (only this last month, I don't owe anything else because I always pay my rent) or else I have to move in 3 days. What!? Why did they even rent this apartment out in the first place and pretend it was ok to live in it? With all the bills from fixing things I doubt they made much money at all. I'm just so confused and pretty livid- I don't have the money to move! Sure, I can pay the rent I'm only 1 week late on, but are they going to try to find any reason to kick us out? We've never done anything wrong but pay late every now and then!

To make matters worse, I have to cancel on my new therapist today because all the finances are just piling up and I can't afford the session. I really feel in over my head at the moment, sometimes it seems like the only thing that will help you is money...

I am not sure if you are even in the states, but if you are look up states rental rights/evication. Where I am at the landlords have to give I think a week, something like that.
