After university, I started a tradition
I would take myself out for dinner
and buy myself gifts
Some years, I would invite a friend
Some years, friends would have a party for me
Some years, it was just me.
After the memory breakthroughs, I added buying cards
and asking people to sign them
1 year I made a birthday collage and gave out cupcakes that I had made
this year
a birthday angel bear
Godiva truffles and cordials ( oh so sweet !)
Addition Elle again (I would shop there with my rapist )
I have accumulated so many points in the last year
that I received a discount on a new Winter Jacket
plus the following FOR FREE !!!!!
a black lounge robe (for after the Body Shop spa )
a winter shawl with a turtle neck
a black top to wear over blouses
and a teal sleeveless fooler top
(the sales clerks have taught me well)
(they oohed and aahed over the Body Shop gift sets)
(ps I would shop at the Body Shop with my rapist)
a hat from Germany (1/2 price)
a shoe care wooden box
the sales clerk agreed that I deserved it as a treat
I am going to an Italian restaurant where the waiter fusses over me
I phoned Mom (p)
no answer
I got to hear Dad's (p) voice again
spooky he will be dead for five years next month
Oh, and I celebrate November 1 st as a birthday
It is the day I left my parent's house
and no one in my family will let me forget that I left that day
